Be happy: Congratulations on having the diagnosis made. It still gets missed and kills plenty of people. Of all the common killer diseases, this is the easiest to manage. The vast majority of hemochromatosis patients have the type that can be managed by removing iron through phlebotomy. You'll probably feel better. Unfortunately, because of misunderstandings, your blood can't be transfused to others.

Hemochromatosis tx: Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disorder of too much iron deposition in the body. The disease affects the skin, the liver, and the body's sugar levels. Treatment is directed at decreasing the amount of excess iron; it is the only disease treated with phlebotomy (blood-letting). You can also treat with chelating agents that bind to the iron and remove it from the body.
