A member asked:

If a woman who is 54 & for the last 20 months has not had a period & all of a sudden starts a period out of the blue is that normal ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Definitely happens: This is completely normal and happens all the time to menopausal women, however.... You need to see a gynecologist. Your bleeding is technically post-menopausal (the definition of menopause being no bleeding for 12 months). Always, when a woman has post menopausal bleeding, she needs to be ruled out for cancer. Likely with a biopsy and/or ultrasound. I'm sure it's nothing, but you have to see.
