Rarely Hereditary: Gb cancer is very rare in the us. It tends to occur with longstanding chronic inflammation of the gb, ie stones, infection, certain drugs. In the us the diagnosis is most often made incidentally when doing gb surgery. Unfortunately, there are no good screening tests--the disease is usually advanced by the time symptoms develop. I hope your mother's case was caught early.
