A member asked:

Rectangular bowels (1/2 in thick, 2 in wide) and fermented looking (puffy looking). normal color and regular (1x/am), no pain but gassy. help?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Change in bowels: Gassy stool is an exception, not the norm. Stool is fluffy in part when it contains a lot of air or gas. Diet plays a considerable role in stool composition, but additional roles here are played by your bacterial flora, the effectiveness of food digestion and absorption, GI transit time, more. Exposures? Travel? Persistently altered bowel habits deserve medical attention & evaluation please.
