Light flash, floater: When a retina comes of (detaches) frequently there are flashes of light, the rapid appearance of floating objects in view and as it progresses, loss of vision and the appearance of a cloud or membrane over the eye. If you have any of these, you should see your ophthalmologist to rule out detachment which is an urgent situation visually threatening.

Typical triad: Flashes, floaters, and a shade/curtain advancing over the vision. Usually little lightning bolts indicate some kind of traction on the retina, the release of tons of new floaters from retinal disruption, and the peripheral decrease progressively indicates the retina detaching slowly. Check vision one eye at a time, if worried, have it checked out by a dilated exam with an eye specialist.
