Difficult: Once infection is established on indwelling foreign material, whether mesh, prostheses or even bone transplants used for stabilization, it is inordinately difficult to cure the infection without removal of the material because it harbors the organism under a biofilm. Sometimes Rifampin is used in these situations, but no guarantees of efficacy. See an infectious diseases expert.

Maybe remove it: May need to remove the mesh. There are many options however to repair hernias without mesh, or using mesh after infection has cleared. See a general surgeon with experience in complex hernia management for an opinion. Checking the americas hernia society website may help.
