Several things: Depending on the severity of the appendicitis, some distention is normal early on. However, saying that you need to see the surgeon and be examined to make sure there are no complications occurring.

Gas: Gas and bloating in the abdomen can be normal for a few days after appendix surgery. Was surgery laparoscopic, as gas is used during that surgery for visualization & causes bloated feeling for a few days. Slow inestinal function (ileus) is also common. Eat light small foods. See your surgeon for evaluation & sooner if vomiting or fevers.
