Colonic inertia: Your gut is not dead, just slow or inertial. In someone with functional constipation, a work-up that includes a sitz mark study to measure a delay in transit, and a defogram to look at the pelvic floor. These will help to better define the constipation, if inertia is the problem, then use of laxatives and adding stimulant suppositories may help. If the problem is evacuation, may need enemas.
