YES- in fact crucial: Folic acid is proven to prevent a common group of birth defects; it's most important the first few weeks of pregnancy so should be taken preventively by all women who might become pregnant. If you're hypothyroid it's crucial to take thyroid hormone when pregnant; having low thyroid levels reduces fertility & greatly increases risk of miscarriage. Thyroid dose may need to be adjusted when pregnant.
