I guess you can..: .. But you would be hard pressed to find a dental team that would start placing dental implants in a mouth with active periodontal disease. The logical course of care would be to resolve your periodontal issue, return your remaining dentition to a healthy state, and then place the implants. This is the best scenario for success and longevity of your natural teeth and titanium fixtures.

Peri implantitis: You can get an infection similar to periodontal infections around implants. It is called peri implantitis. If you are experiencing redness, swelling, bleeding or pain around your implant you need to see your periodontist or dentist as soon as you can.

If you have perio-: Dontal disease proceed very carefully when considering implants. The same disease that is working to destroy bone and gum support for your teeth can do the same to implants. My best advice is to work w your dentist to control periodontal disease in your mouth prior to implant surgery and then work hard w oral hygiene and dental visits to keep the disease in check.
