Infx caused by virus: A majority of sinusitis infections are caused by viruses (e.g.Rhinovirus). Since antibiotics only treat bacterial infections, they are useless against virus infections. In fact, the time it takes to feel better after taking an antibiotic, is the same as the patient who didn't take an antibiotic. In many cases, your immune system will take care of it; supportive management is all that is needed.
