How will having hirschsprung disease mess up my health later in life?

Probably not: Results after surgery tend to stablize or improve a little. Most don't have further long term problems if no associated syndromes.

Depends: The treatment for hirschsprung disease is surgery. Talk to your surgeon or gastroenterologist. Outcome depends on the severity of the hirschsprung disease (how much of the colon has abnormal nerves). In many cases surgical treatment is very successful.

Depends: If correctly treated with surgery then you have no problems or perhaps minimal constipation from time to time that responds to mild laxatives or miralax (polyethylene glycol).

Possibly: In general, most patients with properly performed correction of H.D.Do extremely well with no long term impact. However, some have issues with constipation, recurrent disease, enterocolitis(inflammation of the intestine). The key is early diagnosis and treatment by pediatric surgeons experienced in the care. If, patient has very long segment disease or small bowel hd, long term prob may exist.
