What is a hirschsprung disease, and how to you get it?

Congenital anomaly: Hirschsprung disease is a congenital anomaly of the large intestine that results in difficulty passing stool. It is treated with an operation.

Constipation: Hirschsprung's disease is a congenital disease. You are born with it. It causes constipation and /or obstruction due to non functioning of intestinal nerves. It is treatable, but may require surgery to diagnose and treat.

Aganglionosis: Hirschsprung disease has to do with lack of ganglion cells in bowel. In uterio there is migration of ganglion cells from proximal to distal. Interruption in this can cause short segment rectal, long colonic segment, and total aganglionosis of colon. Sometimes distal small bowel involved.Surgery usuallywith pull through of normal bowel at anus is usually peformed.Increased occurrence in down synd.
