Cosmetic: This is probably alopecia areata that affects hair only. There is an association with thyroid itvis so a screening test is indicated, if the hair loss is not extensive the hair loss can be treated with cream or small injection to stimulate hir to grow back. If hair loss is diffuse this can be caused by drug, severe stress to system and should be evluate to rule out underling disease.

Not at all: At least, not the hair loss per se. Hair loss, in and of itself, is not a health altering condition. The bigger question is, what is the cause, and how does the cause affect your health.
