No: It has a long history within the english-speaking community. The german literature spoke of grenzzustaende, or borderline states. Since the original article by hoch and palatin, the term has been in use. Research would suffer if the terminology changes. As it is the icd-10 is changing it to the emotionally unstable personality disorder. Germans call it die borderline-persoenlichkeitsstoerung.

Borderline: This is a question of personal preference/opinion. I like the term just the way it is. Everyone is familiar with it, and it does not need tweaking. It has an emotional immediacy about it. I felt the same way when manic depression was needlessly renamed bipolar disorder. It sterilized, and dehumanized the disorder through pointlessly obsessional and softening language.
