Overcome? Yes: Dialectical behavior therapy is the therapy of choice for borderline personality disorder. Medications are secondary and are generally used to control symptoms that may pop up occasionally or even be present for a prolonged period of time. The psychiatric literature shows that many people who it one point time in their life were diagnosed with borderline personality disorder no longer meets those those criteria at another point in their life. What often makes the difference at least from my observations during the course of my career has been stable relationships. People with borderline personality disorder often start out relationships with bad boy types who abuse them. As they become healthy, they tend to climb the developmental tree of relationships. I have watched women develop relationships with predatory sociopaths followed by parasitic sociopaths, followed by narcissistic personality disorders, followed by healthy relationships with normal men. By this point they are no longer meeting the criteria for borderline personality disorder.

DBT: Dbt, or dialetic behavioral therapy, formulated and developed by marsha linehan, pH.D. Is currently though of as being very effective. Just about the biggest goal of this kind of therapy for this kind of disorder is to maintain boundaries.
