Bacteria: If you have an earache from a bacteria and Amoxicillin and Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) has not worked, then you may need to go to doctors to determine the bacteria which would help determine which antibiotic to prescribe.

?Infection or not: Ear ache is not the same thing as ear infection. If you have a referred pain, such as from the throat or more commonly the TMJ (jaw joint), antibiotics aren't the treatment and won't help. I assume your doctor could see you had an infection? If they couldn't get a view of your eardrum and presumptively are treating an ear infection that is a problem. Consider seeing an ENT for assessment.
