A member asked:

What is the sptoms of uti in one year old baby what is the treatment if culture shows e coli urine collected in a container and was send?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nonspecific: Uti in that age range may present with any combination of: fever, foul urine, poor appetite, stomachache, vomiting, irritability, painful urination or diarrhea --> many things may point toward the uti, or it may just be fever and irritability. Bactrim or a cephalosporin may be a reasonable antibiotic choice, but this may be adjusted based on culture sensitivities or previous antibiotic exposure.
