5 weeks: An LMP of july 3 means you should be exactly 5 weeks today. If your cycles are irregular, especially longer, then you are even earlier. July 31 would have be 4 weeks, that's way too early to see a baby and a sac would be small. Transvaginal us is much more reliable than abdominal. I wouldn't freak out, but you have to wait a little to get more info.

Unsure: I'm unsure what your concern is? Do you have a positive pregnancy test and the doctor didn't see a sac on ultrasound? If you're last period was 7/3, you might not see a sac until the 2nd week of august, depending on when you ovulated? If you ovulated later, than it might be too soon. Also, doctor should keep in mind could be ectopic pregnancy. If + pregnancy test, see md for another scan.
