Possibly: There are some types of anemia that are hereditary, especially those that lead to abnormal hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells. Those abnormalities lead to shorter red blood cell life, and can cause anemia. However, the mot common cause at your age is poor iron intake in your diet, combined with monthly loss of blood from your periods. It's very easy to check for anemia, so just ask doc!

Anemia is simply....: A rbc percentage (aka hematocrit) or hemoglobin concentration (in g/dl) that is more than 2 standard deviations below the mean for the population, taking into account age and sex. The most common cause of anemia in industrialized nations is fe deficiency, particularly in women of reproductive age. Yet, there are myriad causes of anemia, acquired and constitutional.
