Possible...: Tumor, cancerous or benign (not cancerous). Likely had tissue sampling (biopsy specimen). Ct to look for abnormalities, including lymph nodes, outside the esophagus that may be involved. It is all done to get as much info as possible, in order to plan appropriate treatment.

Answer depends on: Findings of both the endoscopy and the ct, as well as your symptoms. The mass could be a growth of tissue (a tumor or neoplasm) that is malignant (cancerous) or benign (not cancer). Tissue samples collected during the endoscopy will be very helpful. The ct will help evaluate the areas around the esophagus which are not evaluated by endoscopy. Depending on these tests, more tests may be needed.
