Hip: Asymmetric gait is, imo, more related to hip than foot, which causes a limp. Small abnormal movements in "hip" (pelvic girdle) can translate, through long moment of leg rotation, to odd movement of entire leg. Leg rotation is more a function of sacroiliac joint declination than abnormal movement of femoral head within acetabulum, which movement is a fixed event. Physiatrists are experts about.

Asymmetrical gait: I am not positive if the most common cause of asymmetrical gait is asymmetrical foot or hip anatomy. It sure can do it, though. I would blame back problems on that, but again, not sure what the common cause of it.
