Many possibilities: One of the most common causes of headache in the occipital area (back of head) is tension, with muscles taut in neck pulling on muscles in back of head, but this often then extends to the lateral areas above the ears and then to the frontal area. There are many causes for headaches and if this becomes severe, frequent or persistent it would be a good idea to see a doctor and be evaluated.
