A member asked:

A friend told me to go to the emergency room bc my problem of 1 yr duration has not been solved seeing private drs. good idea?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No. Not time-related: The emergency room is for emergencies, which does not depend on how long the symptoms have been present. For example, having an annoying thumb pain for 5 months is not an emergency, and can be seen by non-emergency doctors in the next few days. But, having crushing chest pain for 5 minutes may be a heart attack, and should be checked out in the emergency room.
