IV: With an iv, medications can be better managed. And if there is a complication direct access is already there. In either case it is how your vital signs are monitored that really offers the most in safety.

Yes: I typically use a drug called Halcion (triazolam) however, you should have your pulse, blood pressure and oxygen level monitored during the procedure, but it is actually safer than an IV as the medication is not as powerful. But it is very effective.

It depends upon the actual medications used in both situations, the dosages, your complete medical history and the knowledge and experience of the health care provider performing the procedure, administering the medications and monitoring you.
