Rehab for TAR: The rehabilitation period can be 3 months to a year, but usually you're walking (with protection and stability device like in a cast) around 2-4 weeks and progressing thereafter. It is always better to be fit prior to total ankle implantation and to have your diet and nutrition at the best possible level. I always recommend aqua therapy postoperatively.

Ankle replacement: If you are talking about an ankle replacement then it is typically 6 weeks non-weight bearing. 6 weeks weight bearing in a boot with therapy. Then gradual return to regular activity. Complete recovery is 6 to 12 months for return of motion and resolution of swelling.
