Get it checked first: Ankle strains can take a long time to fully heal, but since you are planning vigorous sport, i suggest you see a sports medicine or a foot & ankle specialist. You may be vulnerable for a second injury.

NO: First you need to have your ankle examined and xrayed. Often i see patient's who 'sprained' their ankle and then an xray shows that they in fact fractured it. Also for all my athletes who sprain their ankle, physical therapy is a must if they intend to return to playing sports. See your foot/ankle doctor with sports medicine experience first and don't play until your cleared.
