What does ill defined opacities in lung means?

On xray imaging including CT scans, areas of the lung where xray does not pass through can be called "opacities" They are not specific and can represent a variety of things ranging from areas that the lung is not fully inflated, to areas of infection or fluid collection and more. Ill defined means that are not very obvious and do not stand out. Interpretation depends on the clinical situation.
