Obscure: Nattokinase is an enzyme that is derived from the fermentation of soybeans (natto). Natto has been used as a folk remedy for cardiovascular disease for hundreds of years. Nattokinase is likely safe when used in amounts commonly found in foods but the safety of taking larger amounts is unknown. Taking nattokinase along with pharmaceutical anticoagulants can be dangerous.
