Continued infection: If you are infected with a bacterium that is resistant to the antibiotics you are taking, your infection may not improve. Depending on the type and location of your infection, cultures may be needed to pinpoint the specific organism. The lab can then run a sensitivity test to see which anitbiotics are effective.

Infection continues: Bacteria can change their cell walls in response to continued use of the same antibiotic(resistance). When that occurs the most common symptom is failure to resolve the original infection for which it was given.
