Don't treat: Don't have your urine analized if you are not having symptoms. Treating asymptomatic bacteruria can lead to bacteria figuring out how to resist being killed. A true urinary tract infection which is caused by multidrug resistant bacteria can be life threatening.

If pregnant...: The one caveat to dr. Edwards' fine answer is for pregnant ladies. If you are pregnant, then you should treat asymptomatic bactiuria as many women will progress to a full-blown bladder infection, possibly ascending to the kidneys. This is very serious when pregnant so we treat all bactiuria in pregnant ladies.
