Normal: I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Antidepressants help with depression but they don't prevent you from feeling normal emotions during terrible times such as a cancer diagnosis or a death etc. It's normal and healthy to feel depressed during such situations and learning new coping mechanisms during those times is important. See your psychiatrist who can refer you to therapy/counseling as appropriat.

Depression: I am very sorry to hear that your mom has cancer, must be very scary. Anti-deprssants often don't work unless they are accompanied by psychotherapy. Ask your doctor for a referral to a qualified mental health professional. Read the articles on depression on the sounmindz.Org, which are updated every week and speak to the latest discoveries in depression treatment. Best wishes.
