A member asked:

Kids' favorite aunt came to visit. told me she has cholesteatoma. what should i tell my children?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is not that bad: Tell them that she has a problem with her ear that is very much like having very bad wax that has the ability to, over time, erode bone. It needs to be treated with surgery and afterwords she may have some problems hearing.
