A member asked:

I had a mastoidectomy operation six months ago. can this cause a need for a cholesteatoma operation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Mastoidectomies are one of the surgical procedures to rid one of a cholesteatoma and they certainly don't cause them. Cholesteatomas have a reputation for being hard to eradicate, so most likely the operation simply failed to get it all out. See your ENT surgeon.
