Not exactly: CHF is not a dz so much as a destination. Many things put strain on the heart to lead to failure. Common causes: chronic high bp, coronary artery disease, diabetes. Other causes: valvular heart dz, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, birth defects in the heart, thyroid dz, drug exposure (alcohol, cocaine, chemotx). These are often genetic-->babies may inherit risk of eventually developing a cause of chf.

No: CHF is a syndrome and not a disease. There are many causes of chf. Patients with certain congenital myocardial diseases can certainly pass those genes onto their offspring.
