A member asked:

I'm a healthy and active 38 year-old asian male whose non-smoking mother died from lung cancer 4 years ago.am i at greater risk?how can i pre-empt it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Don't smoke: If your mother lived with a smoker or worked with smokers, her risk would have been higher than normal even without smoking. We think some people have genetic tendencies to lung cancer, but that's pretty rare. Best bet is living a clean life, good diet, avoid tobacco smoke. If you had a genetic abnormality, we'd advise the same.
