No easy answer: So profoundly sorry to here about your baby. There are never any easy answers here. I have seen miracle babies in this situation, but as likely is a baby with a lifetime of challenges, dependency and need. You need to sit down with neonatologist, a pediatric neurologist and have a frank and open discussion about what lies ahead for you and this child. There is not a one size fits all answer.

Prematurity: First, I am so sorry to hear about the premature birth of your child. Your neonatologist will over time be able to tell you what level if any of deficit there might be. The nicu teams today can do very good work. They usually have counselling available to help you and your wife through the stress and anxiety that you must certainly feel. I will be thinking of you and your family.
