Yes: Many reasons. The tooth could be fractured. Possibly a cavity or an abcess. You will not get resolution until you have it evaluated by your dentist.. Don't delay.

One of many causes: Any pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Regardless of the cause and even if the pain suddenly goes away, you should see your dentist as soon as possible to find out what's wrong and what treatment is appropriate.
