Dry eye: It feelslike you have grit or sand in the eye sometimes the condition can be severe enough to wake one up. Cold compresses to the eye can be a helpful home remedy.

Grittiness: Patients with dry eyes often complain of dryness, grittiness, foreign body sensation, burning, or even tearing. Artificial tears, which are available over the counter, can be helpful. Warm compresses can helpful to open up blocked oil glands on the lid margins to improve the tear quality. There are also prescription medications which can help. You should visit your eye doctor for examination.
