Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Nutrition & exercise: Healthy eating & regular exercise are key to good health & as well as healthy bones. Impact exercise (as opposed to swimming or cycling) is more important for bones to get & stay strong. Get plenty of calcium from your diet. We recommend avoiding sunlight to minimize skin cancer but we get our vitamin d (necessary for healthy bones) from sunlight. So consider taking vitamin d supplement instead.

Prevent OP.: Women in their mid-30s should start supplementing calcium and vitamin D3 to help prevent osteoporosis. Weight bearing exercise helps, too.
