Depends! Type 1or2?: Type 1 diabetes mellitus is due to pancreatic failure. In other words, pancreas no longer makes Insulin which is why Insulin shots are required. Currently, there is no cure for this. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is usually due to obesity leading to Insulin resistance. Pancreas makes insulin, just not enough. Cure, therefore, is weight loss. In fact, some studies suggest bariatric surgery cures dm!
