The same as boys: The major gender difference in asthma is that it affects more boys than girls and more women than men. In other words, on average asthma begins in females at a later age than in males. Also, adult women often have the most severe asthma that is more difficult to treat.

Symptoms...: Asthma is characterized by recurrent episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath and cough due to bronchospasm and airway inflammation. Between episodes most asthmatics are symptom-free. There are effective meds to treat the exacerbations. If your symptoms are severe during an episode, go to the er for treatment. Refrain from smoking to minimize the airway inflammation.
