A member asked:

When i was little, my dad had anaphylactoid reactions. my mom used to worry about it. can you tell me if we still need to worry now that he is older?

Depends: A history of anaphylaxis or non ige medicated anaphylaxis can be very concerning. A visit with one's doctor should help clarify the history and future risk.

OK to worry.: Anaphylactoid reactions are severe reactions closely resembling anaphylaxis but where an allergic basis has not been established. It may be that anaphylactoid reactions involve IgG rather than ige antibodies & basophils rather than mast cells. But we don't really know yet. What we do know is that such reactions recur overtime when re-exposure occurs. Remain alert & keep your doctors informed.
