Depends on: The type of surgery and the needed post op care. Some conditions do not require non weight bearing status. In those cases , crutches can reduce the load and givve balance while healing. Other surgeries may require no weight bearing and only one leg should be done at a time.

bilateral surgery : That can be difficult. There are crutches even wheelchairs for this need. It is a doable thing , though . I usually recommend one side at a time , but sometimes life doesn't allow that. Your surgeon will also guide you - speak freely and ask questions. God luck.
