Avoid: Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant and if you are taking zoloft (sertraline) for depression, obviously it is counter productive to use alcohol. Also, antidepressants can prolong the effect of alcohol and potentially increase risk of toxicity. Its better to avoid alcohol.

Not advised: Drinking on an ssri antidepressant can make depression or anxiety persist ("fighting" the treatment), & increases seizure risk. The med can also make alcohol feel stronger, impairing driving & similar activities more than expected. The standard rule: avoid all alcohol. That said, people use ssris for months or years, & some use alcohol occasionally in small amts & are ok. Weigh the risks.

Ill advised.: Agree with both dr. Anwan & dr. Reidbord. Any time you add alcohol to a mood or an anxiety disorder, it is the equivalent of throwing an accelerant on flames. Mixing alcohol with psychotropic medication further complicates the situation.

Zoloft (sertraline): This is not advised since alcohol is a depressant and can lower pitency of zoloft, (sertraline) us added harmful effect on stomach.
