Info in consent: Unless there are contraindications, mesh is usually used for defects >4 cm. The repair can be performed laparoscopically or open. Complications include wound infection (12-18% after open surgery, less after laparoscopic aproach), bowel injury (up to 20% during open surgery, 1% laparoscopic), seroma formation, prolonged post-operative pain. Length of the operation varies from case to case (1-4 hrs).
