Every month one or : Both ovaries produce follicles with maturing eggs. Those ovarian follicles are cystic. Sometimes these cysts grow out from the ovary, but most rupture or regress. If they are small (less than 2-3 cm), most doctors do not follow up. If larger but simple (just fluid), follow up ultrasound happens in 2 or 3 menstrual cycles, to give the cyst a chance to regress.

Paraovarian cyst: Ovarian cysts can come and go but paraovarian cysts are thought to be embryological remnants and would have been present prior to your pregnancy. It may have been missed on the prior u/s, but in general paraovarian cysts are inconsequential incidental findings. Follow-up u/s recommendations are the same for ovarian and paraovarian cysts and are only indicated for cysts > 5cm prior to menopause.
