Actually, yes: Citalopram and escitalopram actually work relatively well for long durations of treatment in my experience. They also seem to predictably work when restarted. This is in contrast to the anecdotal principle of Prozac (fluoxetine) losing effectiveness after a year or two. It may be that the effectiveness of all antidepressants depends on biological tolerance and constantly changing psychosocial contingencies.

SSRIs vs panic: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (ssris) such as Celexa (citalopram) are often used to treat anxiety & panic disorder (attacks) in addition to depression. They are generally safe to use in the long term. While they have side effects in common, they also have distinct ones, too. What's important is finding one that works for you, like your celexa. Keep in touch w/ur family doc & psychiatrist.
