Absolutely: Some bacterial infections can affect the developing child directly, by spreading to the womb. More commonly, though, bacterial infections can have an effect indirectly, by making you weak, more anemic, dehydrated, feverish, or doing any of a number of things that will make you ill & less fit. If you suspect that you have an infection, you should inform your obstetrician straight away.
