Incorrect eruption: At 41 years old, you should not have any baby teeth left. However, if there is a tooth growing behind another tooth, it may be due to an incorrect eruption path of the second tooth. If the adult tooth does not follow the root of the baby tooth during eruption, the baby tooth will not fall out normally, and will be retained. It is best to get to an orthodontist for a consultation.

Bad luck: You should probably have the baby tooth removed to make room for the permanent tooth. They usually just go into place, but at your age the permanent tooth may need a little orthodontic help.

Poor supervision: At 41 you should not have this'd problem. Dentist should have addressed it when you were a teen. Please see dentist for rx, and ask if orthodontic referral would be helpful.
